How to Age Gracefully

by Kara Lennox, artist and founder of Memo-PauseTM

At some point in every woman's life, she has to except the fact that she is no longer an ingénue.  Sometimes those milestone birthdays can be painful, and we long for our twenties, when we never gave a thought to aching joints, gray roots or the need for reading glasses.  Here are some of my tips for gliding from generation to generation as gracefully as possible.

Don't lie about your age.  Which would you rather have people think:  Wow!  She looks great for 45!  Or, Wow!  I thought she was much older than that.  Ouch!

On the other hand, you don't have to give into aging with complete grace!  Go ahead and color your hair.  Try a new hair style.

Wear age- and figure-appropriate clothing.  There's nothing more unappealing than a forty-something woman in low-rider jeans showing stretch marks and a big ol' muffin top.  This doesn't mean you have to be frumpy!  You can find chic clothes for any age.  (Try Coldwater Creek!)

Focus on health instead of glamour.  Rather than obsessing about fitting into your skinny jeans, think about working out to improve

muscle tone, balance, flexibility and aerobic fitness.  If you exercise regularly, you'll have a glow of health about you that is infinitely more flattering than a bone-thin body.  Yoga is a great way to feel good about your body at any age.

Tone down the make-up.  Beauty experts advise that the older you get, the less make-up you need.  Leave the cherry lipstick, glaring purple eye-shadow and thick black eyeliner to pop princesses.  If you want some inspiration for gorgeous make-up looks for mature women, check out www.Mary-Kay.com.

Indulge yourself.  Get a Mani-Pedi, take a bubble bath, read that new bestseller.  You deserve a little "me-time."

Make sure you get enough sleep, too.  Nothing ages you like bleary eyes with dark shadows.  Adequate sleep will help you to think more clearly during the day, too.

Cultivate new interests.  Nothing makes you feel older like being in a rut.  Take ballroom dancing lessons, join a book club, go bird-watching.  Meet new people.  You’re your life!  Enthusiasm for life keeps you young!
